We’ve got one more full month of summer ahead of us – plenty of time to play outside. Here are five activities to keep you on your toes:

Beach Volleyball: Bumping, setting, and spiking on the beach is quintessentially Vancouver. For beginners, there are a number of volleyball clinics that can help you get a solid foundation. For the ladies, there is a ladies night at 6pack Beach, an indoor court where you can practice without unpredictable winds and the beaming sun. There are also casual meetups organized around volleyball-related events all summer long. For advanced players, there are leagues like Urban Rec that takes 2s, 4s, and 6s, depending on season and number of signups.

Running: Nothing like a good ol’ run around the park after work to boost your energy. Popular running routes include the Stanley Park Seawall, Queen Elizabeth Park, and False Creek. Check out different local trails with elevation details to try out a new path. For extra motivation, Lululemon and MEC have free running clubs.

Ultimate: If you’re into throwing disks around, consider joining the Vancouver Ultimate League. They have a number of sessions available for beginner to advanced level players. There are also opportunities to compete on provincial and national levels for those who have a real passion for it.

Outdoor Yoga: For those looking into learning yoga or dropping-in to group sessions, outdoor yoga (in local parks and beaches) might be the thing for you. Lululemon has organized a number of outdoor drop-in sessions this summer. Be sure to like their Facebook page for upcoming complimentary yoga sessions.

Standup Paddleboarding Yoga: Standup Paddleboarding Yoga combines two challenging activities into one. Deals on paddleboarding are available through Groupon during the summertime. Now a number of beaches, including Kits and English Bay, have a booth for standup paddleboarding. Definitely worth a try.
