We’ve become the juice generation – this health food trend resurfaced several years ago and it’s still going strong in Vancouver. Blended smoothies, cold-pressed, full-on cleansing systems – the options are plentiful. These beautifully packaged, cleverly named juices promise to be a fine balance between nutrition and science (detoxing your insides, clearing your skin, boosting energy, etc.). We can all use a regular injection of glow in our routine, so we’ve rounded up a list of our favourite juicers in town.
Juice Truck
Two guys, a repainted 1984 FedEx truck, and a busy little corner of Gastown (intersection of Abbott and Water Streets) – that was how it all began in 2011. Today, Juice Truck has a storefront on West 5th Avenue, a Native Shoes collaboration, a tea collection, healthy food options, and a cult following of loyalists. Their juice concoctions are tried and true, priced around the $8 mark. PS. Krokodile Pear
Krokodile Pear is a play on words from the term Alligator Pear, an early description avocados. They use a cold press method that extracts juice without applying any heat and minimizes oxygen in the process (keeping the juice fresh for up to 3 days without losing any nutrients). The stores themselves are delightful to visit – bright, airy, and thoughtfully designed. We love the locally inspired juice names like Capilano, Cathedral Grove, and Sunshine Coast. Our favourite is the Westwood (kale, parsley, romaine, celery, cucumber, apple, pineapple, lemon juices blended with avocado, banana, mint, and spinach.) Juices start at $7.95.

The Juicery Co.
The Juicery’s origins started with a deep love for a family member who was going through cancer. The mother-daughter duo started out making juices for their dad/grandfather, which has evolved into a mission to make healthy juices for the community. Their newest location on Main Street is spacious and inviting, and is lined with retail goods, vegan snacks, healthy grab-and-go options. Looking for a soothing pain reliever that’s high in antioxidants? Give their Watermelon Fresca a try (cucumber, watermelon, basic, lime, mint, and chia seed.) Drinks range from $11-$12.

Nectar Juicery
When the youngest woman to cross the Atlantic in a 24-foot rowboat (at just 21 years old) got together with one of YYoga’s cofounders, magical things happened. Nectar Juicery opened its doors in 2015 in a bright little shop on West Hastings. With a focus on health and healing, their menu offers cold-pressed juices, hydrators, and milks. A must-try: Poise (Hibiscus Leaf, Alkaline H20, Schizandra Berry, Marine Collagen, Raw Honey, $7).

Glory Juice Co.
Specializing in organic cold-pressed juice, nut beverages, raw shakes, superfood bowls and cleanses , Glory Juice covers all categories. We haven’t had tried them yet, but their acai bowls are apparently the very best. They offer a full lineup of nut mylks including almond, cacao, espresso, and pumpkin. If you need a quick, yet powerful boost, get their organic shots (grapefruit, ginger, and gut shot) that range from $3.50-$5.00.

Radicle Juice
Don’t miss this narrow shop while cruising down Main. They have a cult following for their acai and fruit bowls and their juices are always freshly made to order (you can even watch them chop your ingredients). If you want to go green, you can get your drink in a reusable mason jar ($3), which gives you $0.50 off future smoothies. If you’re wanting some detox action, give the Red Dawn a try; if you had a rough night, go for The Cure.

UPJUS
Owned by three friends (including a former chef for Global Group), UPJUS offers some of the most interesting juice recipes on the market. Their lines including greens, roots, citrus, mylks, and tonics. They’ve taken things one step further and collaborated with skin and naturopathy experts from Yaletown’s SKN Clinic to create drinks that help fight skin problems like acne. We’re super intrigued by their charcoal lemonade (Alkaline Water, Lemon, Raw Honey, Chia Seeds, Activated Charcoal)!
